Independent Diplomat (ID), the world’s first diplomatic advisory group, is seeking an experienced and creative diplomat to head its new Geneva office, in particular covering the Human Rights Council (HRC).  The position will advise ID’s clients – democratic governments and political groups – on Geneva human rights institutions and their operations.  This new position offers an exciting opportunity to help those most affected by the HRC’s decisions have their voice heard at the HRC, other UN bodies and related organizations.  Our clients include oppressed groups suffering human rights abuses across the world.  The successful candidate will have considerable (at least ten years’) experience in government or other international institutions involved with and working on human rights, combined with the ability to work autonomously while demonstrating commitment to ID’s values of inclusion and justice in diplomacy.

ID Director Geneva will act as an integral part of the worldwide ID team including locations in New York, London and Brussels; and staff in Sydney and Hargeisa.  The Director will work closely with the Project Leaders to develop and implement human rights strategies to assist ID’s clients achieve their diplomatic objectives.  Working with ID’s Media team, the director will be active in creating and implementing public diplomacy strategies on behalf of ID’s clients using social media tools.

Working with the Executive Director, Chief Operations Officer, Director of Development and External Relations, London Director and other senior staff, the Director will also (a) identify states and organizations that will benefit from ID’s diplomatic assistance in pursuit of its core mission and develop and implement proposals for engaging such states and organizations as ID clients; (b) facilitate funding for ID’s work from supportive governments, foundations and grant-giving institutions; (c) manage the general administrative operations of ID in Geneva.
