Kathryn Bacher is a Senior Climate Policy Advisor for Independent Diplomat. She joined the team in May 2020. Previously, Kathryn was a climate change negotiator for the U.S. Department of State working across a variety of multilateral fora including the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the International Civil Aviation Organization, the UN General Assembly, and the UN Environment Program. In the UNFCCC, she primarily worked on climate finance-related matters and advised the Chief Negotiator on strategy and diplomatic engagement across all agenda items, particularly in the lead up to the finalization of the 2018 Paris Agreement Work Program.
Prior to that, Kathryn worked for Ranking Member Barbara Boxer (D-CA) on the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. She has also held positions at the White House Council on Environmental Quality and the World Resources Institute.
Kathryn holds a B.A. in Environmental Economics (magna cum laude) from Colgate University.
