Why it Matters: The US Tamil Political Action Council (USTPAC) calls for a time-bound commitment by the Government of Sri Lanka to improve human rights protection and provide for accountability for war crimes. In his recent report on Sri Lanka, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein called progress made by the government “worryingly slow.” Tamil groups including USTPAC warn that the government’s dangerous lack of progress is eroding the trust of victims and undermining the prospects for political reform in Sri Lanka.
