Culminating an unprecedentedly transparent and democratic process, Antonio Guterres, former Prime Minister of Portugal and UN High Commissioner for Refugees has been selected as the next Secretary-General of the United Nations. Carne Ross shares his views of Guterres on the BBC World Service, calling him “a very competent person to lead the U.N.” and outlines the changes he hopes to see under his leadership.

Excerpt: “By all accounts he is a heavyweight on policy, but he also knows the UN… He has built up a very good reputation as a manager as well a political leader…”
